2019 Brands to Watch

10 Jan 2019

Each year I highlight a few brands to watch. Here is my latest list of brands that will be in the news in 2019.

2019 Brands to Watch

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – The young and dynamic politician from NYC.

Beto O’Rourke – The former Texas Congressman, likely to make a run for president.

Alibaba – The Chinese retail giant.

Norwegian Airlines – A huge discount airline struggling to survive.

Pharma – An industry that needs to find its story.

Tesla – A unique brand now facing lots of competition.

Starbucks – Retreating from its strategy to build upscale Reserve stores.

J&J – A top healthcare brand facing big issues on baby powder.

GE – The biggest unknown. Just how big are GE’s problems? We have no idea right now.

I discuss the brands and my thinking in this video on Vimeo. If that doesn’t work for some reason, you can watch it on LinkedIn.

Great list, Tim. And you picked in my estimate the two brightest and shiniest political brands and the most fun and hopeful to watch. Young faces for a change.

  2. J & J has known for years that the talc in their baby products is harmful. Years ago, J & J promised to stop using formaldehyde and 1,4 dioxane in their baby products, but only after confronted by consumers who noticed European formulations did not have these harmful ingredients. J & J does not have our backs health wise and only promises to change when they are backed into a financial corner. I hope consumers vote with their dollars for new, eco brands that do not contain harmful ingredients. Cost effective, high performing clean baby product alternatives exist. It’s time J & J went the way of Sears.

Pricing in pharam is a particularly dynamic area. My son was recently diagnosed type one diabetic — I now have distinct awareness of lower prices and better technology in other countries. I was not expecting to find that.
